Duties

Duties of the Commission include making and adopting a Comprehensive Plan for orderly development of land use, community facilities and transportation within the City; to make recommendations to the City Council for the preservation of historical markers; prepare, revise and submit a program of capital improvement projects and proposed funding for the ensuing five (5) years; submit to City Council a comprehensive zoning plan and changes to the plan as conditions may warrant and to act as the subdivision platting agent for the City of Colonial Heights.

Members

The Planning Commission consists of seven (7) voting members appointed at large by City Council. The City Manager serves as a non-voting member. One (1) member of City Council serves as a member of the Commission and one (1) member of the Board of Zoning Appeals serves.

The Planning Commission annually elects a Chairman and Vice-Chairman. The three (3) standing committees are Land Use, Zoning and Subdivision. The Chairman appoints members to these committees on an annual basis.
