THE CITY OF COLONIAL HEIGHTS &

CENTRAL VIRGINIA WASTE MANAGEMENT AUTHORITY (CVWMA)

August 12, 2022

In July 2022 the City and CVWMA partnered with WM (Waste Management) as the City's new residential trash provider. 

HERE IS WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW ABOUT THIS CHANGE!

Out with Old in with New - city focus post

One new trash cart per customer (home and businesses) have been delivered.  If you had more than one cart PRIOR to this service change, a maximum of two carts have been delivered. If you need more than two carts, you may purchase an additional cart(s) by visiting the CVWMA website and purchasing carts for a one-time fee of $75/cart.

Try out this new size before ordering an extra one! This cart is larger than the old red carts and will hold 40% more trash. 


Changes to bulky waste collection

Beginning July 1, ALL requests for bulky waste collection must be scheduled in advance. Requests made by Tuesday at 2 p.m. will be fulfilled the next day.

Bulky waste is anything that doesn’t fit in the trash cart: furniture, appliances, bagged leaves and yard waste, and extra bags of trash.  

Schedule bulky waste collection at CVWMA.com/ch-trash-service or by calling 804-340-0900.

Free Bulky Waste Collection is limited to what can fit in the bed of a full-size pickup truck. 

Loads larger than that will be considered Special Bulky Waste and cost $125 to remove.

Trash day will remain on Wednesday. However, the first collection under Waste Management will take place Thursday, July 7, due to the Fourth of July holiday.


SELF-SERVICE ON-LINE OPTIONS

Need to order an additional trash or recycling cart? Need to schedule bulky waste pickup?

Colonial Heights residents can now complete these requests — and more — at their convenience with a new online self-service system.

Please Visit: https://curbside.cvwma.com/?action=customer:main to get started.

  • Select “Colonial Heights” from the drop-down menu and enter your address.

  • Once your address profile is on screen, you’ll see options to the right.

  • Select “New Service Request” to schedule bulky waste pickup, report a missed collection and more.

  • Be sure to select either “Recycle” or “Trash” at the top of the next screen to view the corresponding options.

 You can also order additional recycling or trash carts and pay securely with a credit or debit card.

Many of the self-service options are available only to Colonial Heights customers at this time. Requests can be completed on a smartphone, table or computer. No username or password is required.

There will be no changes to recycling collections.
