The Fall Line Trail (FLT) is a regional multi-use trail that was conceptualized in 2019. The Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) conducted a study to determine an alignment for an approximately 43-mile regional trail. The final report was published by VDOT in the Winter of 2020, outlining the preferred corridor from Ashland to Petersburg. The trail system was then renamed to reflect the natural and geographic character of the region – The Fall Line Trail. The Trolley Line Trail in Ashland, VA was the first segment of the FLT This trail led to the idea of expanding the system into a multi-jurisdictional trail system.

VDOT to host 2 Public Meetings

The Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) is inviting you to attend two in-person public hearings for the Fall Line Trail.

VDOT FLT Public Meetings - May 2022 - green picReview meeting materials and give your input on the proposed location of the Fall Line Trail and alignment refinements to the corridor for a multi-use trail within Chesterfield, Hanover and Henrico counties, as well as the cities of Colonial Heights, Petersburg and Richmond, and the Town of Ashland. The Fall Line Trail alignment was initially identified in VDOT’s February 2020 Ashland to Petersburg Trail Study. Since the completion of the study and the identification of a preferred corridor, a number of alignment refinements have been incorporated into the corridor to be consistent with current local and regional priorities for active transportation, recreation, and economic development.

About the Public Meetings

Each meeting will be held in an open-house style format with no formal presentation given and attendees are encouraged to arrive at any time during the open-house window. VDOT representatives will be present to discuss the alignment and answer questions.
