About the Communications Department

The Colonial Heights Emergency Communications Center (CHECC) provides 24-hour service of all emergency and non-emergency Police, Fire, and EMS calls. Such calls include 9-1-1 and non-emergency telephone service for the hearing and speech impaired.

Technology

The CHECC utilizes state-of-the-art technology to provide fast and effective emergency communication services. Using sophisticated radio communication, mobile computers, and a Computer Aided Dispatch (CAD) System, the CHECC is able to process requests and expedite the dispatch of emergency police and fire personnel in an emergency.

9-1-1 Center

The Colonial Heights Emergency 9-1-1 Center is the hub of emergency communications for the city and acts as the central base of incoming 9-1-1 emergency calls (wire line and wireless) from the general public, as well as outgoing communications to personnel in the field.

Emergency Services

The facility is the true communication “nerve center” for emergency services incorporating a cooperative interaction of cutting edge technology and a highly trained work force. This combination ensures that the citizens of the city can expect an efficient and professional response to any emergency-related contingency.
