City Code Revision - Parking of Vehicles

The Colonial Heights City Council adopted Ordinance No. 16-29 in August of 2017. This ordinance revised sections of Chapter 286 of the City Code relating to parking or storage of vehicles, campers, trailers, and boats.


The following table provides a summary of some of the ordinance provisions:


Vehicle Category
Parking/Storage locations
Tractor-trailer combinations, tractors, trailers; tanker trucks, buses, dump trucks, or concrete mixer trucks
Not allowed to be parked or stored in residentially zoned districts.
Box truck, bucket truck, flatbed truck, and tow truck
No more than one (1) per lot shall be parked in residentially zoned districts in the side or rear yard, behind the front line of the principal structure.
Recreational vehicles, recreational or utility trailer, boats, or campers
No more than a total of three (3) shall be parked or stored in a residential district in the side or rear yard, behind the front line of the principal structure.  These vehicles shall not be parked or stored in a residential district in the front yard.
